This stunning piece comes from the 'Special Tree' Series and is now in a private collection.

"The works in this series are inspired by our ‘special’ tree; that one (or many) trees that you feel connected to. The one that’s always there to listen, to be still with you and sometimes for a friendly embrace."

The tree you see in front of you doesn’t wholly exist: it is made up from several images of different trees collated together to form one ‘special tree’. These are all unique pieces - the way in which the cyanotype has been painted onto the canvas as well as the varied and natural wood, collected from or near by the trees photographed. The trees vary in location, some from the forest in which Tolkien grew up as a child, inviting a mysterious and fantastical beauty.

"Something that I personally love about this work is the process: Cyanotype is a two part chemical and is one of the oldest photographic processes. Fun fact: its actually why blue prints are blue!"

Cyanotypes are created through exposure to sunlight and then fixed with water; poetically the two main natural elements needed to sustain life in trees.
